Dear RiverGrace family,
Last Sunday we appreciated the sharing and testimony of Ginger Pinili. It was an encouragement to all of us to see how God provided for all her needs and gave her courage during the difficult time of her husband, Pastor Jun's home-going, after his fight with leukemia.
This coming Sunday, Pastor Tommy will be preaching about "Workers and Warriors" from Nehemiah chapter 4. In the chapter Nehemiah faced opposition and threats of attack. How did he respond? How do we react and respond when people are opposing us? Do we run away to try to escape it? Do we try our hardest to eliminate the opposition? Perhaps there are lessons for us to learn about that from the way Nehemiah overcame the problems and opposition, as he was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.
Rita will be leading the worship songs and we'll have our fellowship lunch after the service.
This coming Sunday Yan Yue will vote on the request by RiverGrace to become an independent church. The meeting and vote will come after the Chinese service. Only those who have been baptized into Yan Yue, or were already members are permitted to vote. Even if you cannot vote, you are invited to attend. Please be at the church around 11:15, as we don't know for sure when the service will finish.
Due to that meeting, it's likely that our English service may be somewhat delayed. Apologies ahead of time for that. Please pray that God's will may be done. Whichever way the vote goes, we'll continue to push ahead in whatever ways God leads us so we can continue to minister to those He brings to us.
Next Saturday, June 17, at 7:30pm, the World Refugee Day program will be held at Island ECC in Quarry Bay. The purpose of the variety program is to raise awareness of the plight of asylum seekers and refugees around the globe, and in Hong Kong.
The United Nations estimates there are now about 65.3 million forcibly displaced persons in the world. 53% of them are from 3 countries, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Syria. Over half of them are under 18 years of age. There are several thousand asylum seekers / refugees in Hong Kong.
Once again here's a reminder of our baptism service on June 25th, which will be held at the Home of Loving Faithfulness in Sheung Shui. You need to sign the signup sheet by the 18th if you plan to go so we can make the best decisions regarding transportation. We will also have a BBQ after the service and you can swim in the pool if you wish.
We'll have the normal Wednesday morning fellowship at 11:00, and at 7:00pm we'll have the Connect Group meetings and the Spanish Fellowship..
