Dear RG family,
It was a big week for RiveGrace and we continue to seek God's way forward.
Last Saturday, our RG Leadership Team had a brunch with the deacons of Yan Yue Church. We spent time getting to know each other better, and then had some discussions about RiverGrace becoming a daughter church of Yan Yue. In they end the deacons approved allowing RiverGrace can set up a transition committee to look into the options of becoming an independent daughter church and finding a new location in which to meet.
The discussions with Hong Kong Evangelical Church, the church conference to which Yan Yue belongs, have all been positive towards our meeting the qualifications of becoming a separately registered church. RiverGrace would become the 21st church of HKEC. It would be their first non-Chinese international church in Hong Kong.
On Sunday, after the Chinese service was concluded Yan Yue had their congregational meeting to approve the 2017 church plan. The plan included the provision of RiverGrace setting up the transition committee. The plan passed in a unanimous vote.
Please keep the staff and Leadership Team in your prayers fas we begin to seriously search for a new location, and for God's direction Pray that God will provide the right place.
This Sunday our service will be at noon. I will be sharing the third and final sermon on "Where was God When....?" This time we'll look at Jesus, and how he, too, wondered where God was when he was hanging on the cross. Like we sometimes feel, Jesus also felt the absence of God, and even asked God why he had forsaken him.
What are the implications of Jesus, himself, having experienced those feelings? That will be the aim of our time together as we are also celebrating Emmanuel... God with us, even when we may not feel like he is.
Andrew will be leading the worship songs, and we'll have our fellowship lunch after the service.
This will be my last time in RiverGrace until next year... January 8, 2017, that is. I'll head for the USA on Monday. If you have any special needs, please contact Pastor Tommy or Pastora Aime during the time Cindy and I are gone. We'll still be in touch electronically.
Remember, next Sunday, December 18th 2-6pm. RiverGrace will be having its Christmas party. It will be a fun-filled and meaningful RG family time. Invite your friends. We hope to have 80 -100 people.
On Christmas Sunday, December 25th, there will be a joint service with Yan Yue. It will be a bilingual service, and will start at 11:00am rather than 12, like normal. There are no other planned activities that day as Yan Yue Church will be using the hall that afternoon.
Also, mark on your calendars for January 1, which is also a Sunday. Rev. Tse, the new Yan Yue pastor. will preach and lead communion. It will not be a joint worship, so our service will be at the normal 12:00pm. In the afternoon we'll have Our New Year's family retreat. (January 2 is also a public holiday but because we're doing the family retreat on Sunday afternoon, after the service, we'll have no special plans that day.
During the New Year's "retreat", we want to have a time of thanksgiving for what God has done for you in 2016, and also do some planning for 2017. We'll encourage you to use a Bible reading plan of your choice for the year, sign the form for people you'd like to pray for this year to come to know Jesus, and also setting some personal goals for 2017. I hope you will all stay for that time, led by Pastor Tommy and Pastora Aime.
