Dear RG family,
Last week Cindy talked about two of the core values of RiverGrace, belonging and connecting. Our hope and pr is that as a church we can even do a better job of helping people know they belong and hrayeelp them be connected to God and to each other.
This week we'll look at the other two main core values, growing and serving. We were not meant to be born again and then not grow. We were meant to be in process of "working out our salvation" by growing more like Christ in our attitudes and actions.
As we grow, we realize that we are also called to serve God by serving others. That was the example of Jesus. We were not meant to be saved just for our own benefit. God has chosen to use imperfect people like me and you in the process of building his kingdom. When we think about how often we fail to do that, it's amazing that it was part of his plan.
Are we willing to grow and be used by God? This is also part of the reason we want to use the cell church model. As RiverGrace grows, there is no way that only a small group of people can minister to so many people effectively. That is where YOU come into the picture. God calls each of us to serve, not just the pastors or leaders. We can all do our part and we'll be a much better and stronger church.
Michael will lead the worship this Sunday and we'll have our fellowship lunch after the service.
After lunch I'd like to invite everyone who would like to be greeters and helpers for our services to meet for a short time. We also use the term ushers in some churches, not to be confused with hushers... ones who get people to be quiet in the service so that everyone can sleep better! Sorry that's just from an old joke!
I hope we can have at least one team of greeters for each Sunday of the month. The main job is to greet people when they come in, making sure newcomers feel welcomed, and giving them the information about our church and also the guest form to be filled out. Each team will also help take the offering for the week they are on duty. There may be other things to help with before the service, but we'll make a list. If you'd like to serve in this way, join us on Sunday, or if, for any reason you won't be there, let me know.
Next week there will not be life group or Cantonese class due to the deacon's meeting.
